Development of Infiltrometer

This thesis aimed to develop infiltrometer by construct a tank and measuring the change of depth of accumulated water that infiltrates the soil. This infiltrometer can be used to replace the Commonly used hook gauge. The height of the new infiltrometer used with tank was 1200 mm with a diameter of 150 mm. The level water tube had a diameter of 7.7 mm with a maximum parameter of 950 mm. The double ring infiltrometer height was 300 mm with a 550 mm and 300 mm diameter. Results of the study revealed that readings made from the infiltrometer and hook gauge showed not very significant differences. Furthermore, if the water in the infiltrometer tank gets dirty, reading from the scale becomes difficult. However, as compared to the hook gauge, the new infiltrometer provided more convenience in reading infiltration and allowed automatic transfer of water to the double ring. An application program computing the depth of accumulated water and the rate of infiltration was written to reduce the time used in analyzing the results.
