Comparison on Rock Mass Deformation of the Powerhouse Cavern

The rock mass behavior for design the powerhouse cavern at the Lam Ta Khong Pumped Storage Project at Nakhonrachasima was depicted as Elastic and Elasto plastic Behavior. Analysis methods were PHASES and EXAMINE program. In order to determine the support, component and deformation behavior of the powerhouse cavern. Basically, measurement of deformation during construction is necessary. This study aims at comparison on the deformation value during design and construction stage. Those values were measured by the convergence and extensometer at Station 0+051.50 m., 0+096.50 m. and 0+126.50 m. at section A, B and C respectively. The results of this study revealed that the measured deformation values were in the range of those calculated by the plastic theory. It can be concluded that the deformation value represented the overbreak zone effected by blasting during construction. Thus, the rock mass for design parameter should be elasto-plastic or plastic behavior.
