A Preliminary Study for Separating Cobalt Ions from Nickel Ions in DiluteHydrochloric Acid by Using Emulsion Liquidmembrane
This work studied the possibility for separation of cobalt ions from nickel ions in the dilute hydrochloric acid solutions by using Emulsion Liquid Membrane. Liquid membrane was prepared by mixing Di-2-ethylhexyle phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) with SPAN 80 and N-heptane. Next, the liquid membrane was agitated with a hydrochloric acid solution of which the pH was approximately 1, with a volume ratio of 1:1 by using a high-speed homogenizer for preparing emulsion. The obtained emulsion was mixed with the acidic buffer solutions of sodium acetate and acetic acid containing initial cobalt ions and nickel ions concentrations of 1,000 ppm with the volume ratio of 1:2. The results of the extractions were analyzed by measuring the concentration of cobalt ions and nickel ions that remained in the external phase by using the Atomic Absorption (AA).
